Mayu loves to travel and visit new places for their culture, sights, and most importantly, food. Mayu also loves animals and enjoys visiting zoos and was an annual pass holder at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (her favorite zoo) when she lived there. She hopes to visit Thailand next to experience their culture and to also interact with the elephants. Mayu hopes that one day she’ll have the resources to help protect these beautiful animals.
Mayu is based in our California office and enjoys immersing herself in the intricacies of immigration law. She currently assists with various immigration-related cases for both individual and corporate clientele, in English and Japanese.
Prior to joining SWLG, Mayu was a part of a Japanese firm in Kyoto, Japan dealing mostly with civil law matters. In a city packed with both English and Japanese speakers, Mayu was able to leverage her abilities as a bilingual for consultations and correspondences. Mayu has also participated in research studying the effects of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Specifically, she focused on legal and environmental issues that arose as a result of the tragedy.
Interest in Immigration:
As a second-generation U.S. citizen, the majority of Mayu’s early knowledge about the subject came from second-hand accounts. However, as the political environment has pushed talks about immigration to contemporary conversation, her interest in the topic has since grown. As she deepens her knowledge about immigration matters, Mayu hopes to be increasingly better positioned to help those in need.
