Beginning on March 1, 2019, the United States State Department will only conduct H and L visa interviews in China at three locations: the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, and the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai. As such, H and L visa interviews will no longer be conducted at the U.S. Consulates located in Chengdu or Shenyang.
The reduction of the number of locations where H and L visa interviews are conducted is intended to consolidate the resources and expertise allocated to a large H and L visa caseload. Therefore, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and the U.S. Consulates in Guangzhou and Shanghai will absorb H and L visa interviews from the U.S. Consulates in Chengdu and Shenyang. Because of this, applicants should prepare themselves for potentially longer wait times for visa interviews at these three locations.
